Thoughts on life

  • The more you learn, the more you will realize you don't know shit. If you look back at yourself from a year ago and aren't shocked by how stupid you were, you simply haven't learned enough.
  • To be correctly contrarian, you need to be incorrectly contrarian a lot.
  • Self promotion is generally considered distasteful, but necessary for upward mobility. Welcome to my site.
  • The butterfly effect is a reminder of the natural principle that small actions have big consequences. Minor acts of caring are no different.
  • You’ll never outperform your identity. The more we accept a core belief about our inability, the more we have conviction and deepen that behavior until it becomes a daily habit.
  • I aspire to always be the dumbest person in the room. If I'm not, then I'm in the wrong room.
  • Most people don’t need more time—they need fewer excuses. Too many die at 30 before they are buried at 80, living the same week thousands of times and never reaching their potential.
  • Good students are the worst at learning because schools condition you to associate mistakes with failure rather than opportunity.
  • Opinions are easy to produce. Everyone has them and they're often bad.
  • If you acquire one status product, you will likely have to purchase others to fill up the socially conspicuous puzzle. Best to avoid altogether.
  • Take extreme ownership. Everything is your fault.
  • Live life like you can only pack the smallest U-Haul and make 1 trip.
  • It's a shame we remember the things that would be smart to forget, and forget the things that would be wise to remember.
  • Validation is for parking.
  • Understanding that money is simply value is the best way to understand that money doesnt make a person evil. When we see someone with a lot of money we think “they got lucky” or “who had to lose for them to gain”, instead of “what value was created to generate that money?”
  • At 20, your situation reflects your upbringing; at 40, your situation reflects your decisions; and at 60, your situation reflects the impact you’ve had on others.

Thoughts on business

  • You’re either building momentum or losing it.

  • Customers don't care about your product. They care about their problem.
  • The longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it is to get home.
  • Its more important to have good challengers than good followers. Most people I work with are there because they are great at disagreeing with me.
  • There are a lot of "incompetent" people in the world trying to do things they aren't good at instead of things they are good at. There's also a good chance that you and I fall within that category.
  • A well designed machine will take into account the fact that people are imperfect.
  • Leadership is not about managing things its about developing people.
  • If I give you advice it doesn’t mean I think I’m smarter than you. It just means I’ve likely done more stupid stuff.
  • Big goals without hard work is just entitlement.
  • Decision-making is a muscle.
  • Solve real problems, not ego problems.
  • Motivation is overrated.
  • Saying "I don't know" is underrated.
  • No one works harder than a person who hates asking people for anything.
  • If you have one eye focused on the reward, that leaves you only one eye to focus on the purpose.
  • As much as I am an advocate for diversity, I believe in merit based opportunity. I hate being called a female founder. I am simply a founder. Please judge me with the same criteria as everyone else.
  • Be extremely annoying. Annoying people win.
  • You probably won’t get wealthy starting a venture-backed startup.
  • Even the best founders are just winging it.
